The Jurisdictions of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite are the Supreme Councils of nations where a section of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of freemasonry are located. It is a body which operates an esoteric Masonic rite system of 33 degrees. It is independent from the various Grand Lodges or Orients in each nation, but a participant must be a freemason to join the Scottish Rite. Major rivals include the York Rite and the French Rite. It claims that each Supreme Council is sovereign with no overall international control; however it is unclear how truthful this is; the Southern Jurisdiction in the United States, with its headquarters at the House of the Temple, Washington D.C. on 16th Street Northwest, incidentally the same street as the White House, appears to be the location of the spider on the web.
