Hermeticism, sometimes known as Western Esotericism, is a syncretic esoteric and pagan philosophical system, derived from various Greco-Egyptian writings known as the Corpus Hermeticum, attributed to Hermes Trismegistus. It got popular in the Roman Empire during the 1st and 3rd centuries, alongside Neoplatonism, Gnosticism and Christianity. Due to the Renaissance humanism of the Medici court and the work of Marsilio Ficino during the 16th century, it was revived and had a wide impact on the following Occult tradition.
